| Puran kicks off in New Zealand Posted: 06 Oct 2010 11:39 AM PDT A three-day shrimad bhagawat purana recitation has begun at a 43 Moheke Avenue, Palmerston North, New Zealand at the initiation of Bhutanese community. The function runs through October 2 to October 10. Hindu priests Yadhav Bhandari (of Christchurch), Bishnu Bhakta Adhikari (of Nelson) and Shastri Indira Bhandari (of Christchurch) had been entrusted with the religious discourses. The program was inaugurated by Palmerston North Mayor Mr. Jono Naylor with a special function. On second day visit by Palmerston North Member of Parliament Mr. Iain Lees- Galloway. According to Bhutanese Society of New Zealand (Palmerston North chapter), Bhajan Kirtan (religious hymns), pravachan (discources), and katha bachaan (recitation) are being conducted. Over 200 people including Bhutanese are participating the program. Coinciding the puran, Bhutanese Society of New Zealand has drawn attention of the New Zealand government on the need for a Hindu temple in the area, Palmerston North, where the Hindu community is expanding gradually. In his inaugural speech, mayor Naylor said that the government of New Zealand would look into the matter and would come up with solution at the earliest possible. | One sustains critical injury in Minnesota Posted: 06 Oct 2010 02:32 AM PDT A resettled Bhutanese in Saintpaul of Minnesota State in USA has sustained critical injury when a speedy car hit the pedestrian while crossing the road Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as Radhika Adhikari, 29, who was resettled in December last year. According to relatives of Adhikari, the car hit her at a time while she was crossing the busy road to head towards her work place. Siwa Homagai, brother of Adhikari, informed BNS that his sister, who was hit by the car from her backside, has sustained critical injury on her back. She is now undergoing treatment at the Regional Hospital. It is not yet known if the police have taken the driver of the car under their control. Reported by Arjun Pradhan for BNS from Minnesota |
